Farewell Republic.

Tomorrow morning we are leaving Republic Apartments, our temporary home. We will be heading off to our new little flat in Teneriffe, Brisbane. We are all looking forward to feeling more settled and packing the suitcases away for 6 months.

We have spent two weeks at Republic but it seems like much longer. Thankfully both children have recovered from the long-haul induced illnesses. However, Alex has continued to injure himself on a regular basis. Alex is still very distressed about his new crocs causing blisters. He still swears that he will never wear them again because "they ripped my feet". We are also coping a bit better with the heat (mainly because we have learnt to avoid spending long periods in it).

We have not blogged because we have not done much sightseeing, instead focusing on the practicalities of moving to Brisbane. Flat hunting took up a significant amount of time. We have found an apartment in a lovely area near the river, however because of the location we have compromised on size. We collected our rental car and disappointingly one of our first trips was to Ikea. Turns out all Ikea's are identical and equally horrific irrespective of the location. We bought Elliott a $70 cot, that needed to be delivered to the flat at a cost of $60.

However, we have had two little trips as a family. Firstly to a local seaside town called Shorncliffe. The town was nothing special but it had a fabulous playground. Unsurprisingly, Alex fell over and badly grazed his elbow. We have also visited Redcliffe, a bit further up the coast. It had a massive lagoon with a childrens splash pool. We spent a lovely few hours there before the heat got too much.

Irmeet has started work on nights. I have been trying to occupy the boys in the day so Irmeet can sleep. Me and the boys have therefore had 3 little trips out in Brisbane City Centre. Firstly to the Southbank and Queensland Museum. Secondly to the Botanical Gardens and today to Roma Street Parklands and Museum of Brisbane.

At the moment, Alex is obsessed with planets (especially Jupiter), therefore most conversation has revolved around our solar system. He really enjoyed learning about how Earth was composed of supercontinents (Pangaea) in the dinosaur section of the Queensland Museum.

We are hoping to have some more family time this weekend when Irmeet finishes nights tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed the move goes well.

Further observations:
- I know it has been said many times before, but Australians love Beetroot and Avocado. This is absolutely fine with me.
- I managed to get Alex to eat Vegemite.
- I want to reiterate how awful Australian TV is, Crocodile Dundee II is on today.
- Alex shouted "crocodile" at a little Lizard in the park today (we need to stop talking about planets and focus on animals).
- I forgot to mention in my first Australia post that the first Australian we met was the transfer bus driver. He was a "proper Aussie bloke" and managed to catch a fly between his thumb and index finger on first attempt.
- Flat whites are very nice.
